Are you kids back to school yet? The kids here go back next week, while my son’s course work for home schooling starts on the 28th. Whether they’re already back to school, or getting ready to head back, lunches and snacks are probably on your mind and on your lists. But what about Protein?

Pack Some Protein in their School Lunches
Protein is a vital part of a healthy diet for everyone, but children need it more because of their growing and developing bodies. To figure out exactly how many grams of protein a day your child should be consuming, take their weight, and divide by 2. For example, my son weighs one hundred pounds, so he should be eating 50 grams of protein per day.
What foods are best?
Many foods are high in protein, but if your child has a limited diet, they may not be getting enough. If you’re looking to boost protein in their diet, then look to eggs, quinoa, milk, yogurt, peanut butter, pork, and chicken. These are just some of the foods that offer protein. However, packing some of them in lunches isn’t always easy.
Yogurt is a great snack for lunches. If you’re worried about it getting warm, try getting your child GoGurt, and freeze the tubes. They will be thawed but still cold by lunch time. A good ol’ peanut butter sandwich is great too. If they don’t have a nut allergy, try packing some almonds, cashews or peanuts. Trail Mix is great snack and full of protein.
If your child eats these, that is fantastic. However, not all kids (or even adults) will eat some of these, whether it be due to diet restrictions, picky eating, or food aversions. So what then?
